Sherry Welsh: The Trust Model

April 16, 2018 By Arminda

iTunes Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

I got so much out of my conversation with Sherry Welsh, author of Slowing Down: Unexpected Ways to Thrive as a Female Leader, and leadership coach.

Discussing Sherry’s Trust Model illuminated for me a powerful trifecta between integrity, transparency and communication, and seeing more clearly how loss of personal power is directly linked to lack of trust. Here are links to two additional conversations Sherry’s recorded to further illustrate How to Make the Trust Model Work for You and How to Build Trust in Your Relationships.

We referenced Byron Katie’s Judge Your Neighbor worksheets we both love using and you can access them for free, as well!

Thank you, Sherry, for the reminder that I am enough right now and I have everything I need to be powerful today.

Sherry Welsh Bio

Sherry started out with an education in Engineering. Although she didn’t quite know what to do with it, it gave her the technical background to begin a 25 year career in manufacturing. With the introductory job in Southampton, PA, the experience she gained in that first year landed her on the path of a 20-year career with Robert Bosch, GmbH. She moved through plants, corporate offices in Germany and the U.S. and ultimately landed in Michigan where she lived for 20 years prior to landing back home in Charleston, SC. When she left Bosch, she was one of the few women who were in the executive ranks. She was lured away from Bosch to another automotive supplier to be the head of the Global Sales organization responsible for $3 Billion in Sales. Although the future seemed bright there, the great recession of 2008 came along and knocked her out of the game… temporarily. As a single mom, unemployed in Detroit, Michigan, in one of the greatest recessions of all time, the future seemed bleak. It was in that time, Sherry was able to slow down, set up a consulting practice, and use the skills she had developed over the years as a leader. In that year of consultant work, Sherry discovered her love for coaching and mentoring. Another company came along, a British Cosmetic packaging company that invited her into a 2-year stint as a Global Sales leader. Sherry worked with colleagues around the world again and loved the team she was developing and leading in Paris, Amsterdam, Brazil, New York and Chicago, to name a few locations. Working with customers like Chanel, Christian Dior, and LÓreal was a dream! But due to the nature of the location, every week she was on an airplane, at a different hotel, in a different city. Despite her love for travel, this way of life, disconnected from others, while being a single mom, was exhausting. That’s when the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC) popped up on the radar! It was exactly what Sherry loved most about working with the multicultural teams she had around the world… inspiring them and coaching them to be their best! Although she no longer belongs to any one corporation, as an independent professional coach, Sherry now works with clients around the world to help them discover and bring into all aspects of their life their innate leadership abilities. She continues to travel and co-parent her incredible son… but more relaxed, with more humor, and an open mind full of possibility.

Cheryl Sutherland is the Founder of PleaseNotes, a for-purpose company of affirmation-filled products, and my friend. I’m delighted to have her as today’s guest on The All Arminda Show and I hope you enjoy her infectious laughter, her deeply-experienced wisdom, and the beauty radiating from her inside out.
This conversation covers some of Cheryl’s personal insights to her own value and worth, what she has to give and how her love of having “affirmations everywhere” inspired her to start her company, PleaseNotes.
I love how self-aware Cheryl shows up in her world and I love the honesty she shares with me and, by extension, with each of you!
During our conversation, Cheryl offered to share some free affirmation downloads with each of you; please be sure you hop over and take full advantage of them.

Some of you may already be familiar with Chris Dorris. Not long ago I offered my readers access to his powerful audio program on commitment. If you missed that opportunity, it’s not too late. Just send me an email <coach@armindalindsay.com> and I’ll be happy to send you the link. It’s definitely worth the listen.

For those of you not familiar with him, Chris is essentially the psychological equivalent to a physical trainer and has been immersed in the world of pushing people past their perceived limits since 1994 in the capacity of advisor, consultant and Mental Toughness Trainer and Personal Transformation Coach to elite athletes, executives, entrepreneurs and individuals worldwide. He conducts workshops and seminars on Mental Conditioning, Leadership, and Peak Performance.

“Your life unfolds according to the way that you think.” — Buddha

What if you had a class that teaches you how to think and to strengthen the quality of your thinking skills? To practice using your mind to positively improve your world?

Was Freud wrong with his stimulus/response theory?!

The good news is you can IMMEDIATELY change your thoughts with CHOICE, and with practice we can alter our perceptions of reality. Suffering is merely the result of judging your sadness.

Your choice is to either experience the world problematically or opportunistically.

Options/interpretations of reality allow you to have, do and be what you want.

Chris’ Recommended Daily Practice

  1. Catch Your Negative Thoughts
  2. Own Your Thoughts
  3. Replace Your Interpretations With an Upgrade

Becoming aware of the invisible (inside) stuff is unconscious learning!

“If something is troubling you, it’s not the thing itself, but your estimate of it, which you can revoke at any time.” — Marcus Aurelius

Chris makes it very clear: He is not selling happy thoughts; he’s selling options — you have a choice.

You cannot create excellence and mastery in a sustainable way if you choose a low grade interpretation of reality. — Chris Dorris

“Create the state; don’t wait.” — Chris Dorris

Become the person who doesn’t have complaining be a thing that goes on in your life. Start stopping complaining.

Here’s the Louis Schwartzberg video on GRATITUDE:

You always have access to gratitude. The only thing that goes away is your ability to remember you always have access!

Maintain a gratitude journal.

We chat about our friend Andrew McKee and his amazing book titled Change Your Game, Change Your Life.

Love this interview? Please share it.

016: Gary Mahler & A Woman’s Sovereignty

Gary Mahler & A Woman’s Sovereignty

The All Arminda Show

iTunes Button (via NiftyButtons.com)

Is it unusual that I’m bringing in a man to talk about women? Not this man, methinks 🙂

What can you look forward to learning?

The woman who knows her power and isn’t afraid of being and showing herself to the world — the world changes because of her

That value, sovereignty, inheritance resides within each of us — and only our stories get in the way

Unless and until I love and value myself, will I be the sovereign of my life and when I step into that value I will bless everyone around me because I don’t need them to be love because I already am love

Loving ourselves is such a deeply powerful experience and you’re the only one who can do it

How to Increase Your Power

  1. Notice what you do and who you be
  2. Choose different
  3. Take actionable steps to live the life you imagine
  4. Choose you

Future Vision Exercise

  1. List all the things you’re grateful for (read daily)
  2. Write personal “I am” statement (read daily)
  3. Live it

Choosing YOU

  1. This is who I say I am, now I only have to choose it
  2. Know your value
  3. Create your sovereignty
  4. Be around men who appreciate everything you bring
  5. Be who you need to be and you’ll attract the right sort of men

Gary references both Steve Hardison & Steve Chandler, remarkable men who have impacted countless lives with their love and service.

Gary’s Bio

Besides women’s surf retreats,  we create bespoke events for team building, leadership work, and executive groups: 3 day events in Malibu & 5 day events in Hawaii.

Gary works with highly-driven people to do that thing they want with all their heart, that thing they might not know how to describe yet. That thing that scares the hell out of them.

He challenges how his clients see themselves, think about themselves and believe in themselves.  Gary firmly believes and lives the principle: when you change the way you think about yourself and you change the way you behave, your life WILL transform. He will never, ever let you forget what you tell him is important to you. When you are ready, he’ll be your Life’s Purpose Operations Manager, building your dreams together.

015: Marylou Falstreau on Loving Yourself

February 23, 2016 By Arminda

Marylou Falstreau Interview on Loving Yourself

The All Arminda Show

Marylou Falstreau
Marylou and I met on Twitter and I’m so incredibly delighted I reached out to her and even more delighted that she agreed to speak with me! May your experience of her work be similar to my “heart response” when I saw her art.

During this episode, Marylou and I talk about the significant work she’s doing impacting women’s lives through the visual medium of her art and why she started the Women and the Hourglass series of paintings that resonate so powerfully with women.

Each message, each woman, is pointing her finger at me and saying, ‘Wake up, Marylou! Make a different choice! Make a different decision!’

Addiction has been part of Marylou’s family story and her personal journey and learning about addiction led us into a deeper discussion around what it means to love ourselves and what practices we can implement to remove the foreign concept of love into a practical application and a regular practice for ourselves.

Marylou is most interested in living a life of truth telling, allowing others to tell their stories, their heartaches, to talk about getting better, learning more, waking up and being in conversation about that from an authentic point of view.

Marylou’s Excellent Advice

  1. Be real.
  2. Be honest.
  3. Tell the truth.
  4. Love ourselves so we can love others.

Be sure and look at Marylou’s gorgeous artwork on her website.

014: Melissa Ford on Service Interview

Melissa Ford on Service Interview

The All Arminda Virtual Show

Melissa Ford Service Interview

Melissa Ford is remarkable. No, seriously. She’s one of the most amazing women I know, and I know a lot of amazing women. It was such an honor to talk with her about service and to gain clarity around this widely misunderstood behavior and quality.

On the (rather early) morning of our scheduled conversation, the first thing Melissa said to me was

I would only get up this early for Arminda or Santa Claus.

And that is a high praise I’m taking to the bank!

My recommendation is that you listen more than once and really let sink in these refined nuances of what service really means and allow yourself time to identify areas in your world (professional and personal) where you can make some adjustments.

What You Will Discover In This Episode

  • Widely misunderstood definition of service = means giving and giving and giving with expectation of nothing in return
  • Lots of expectations built into that model & it drains your energy, makes you small and your business doesn’t grow
  • This definition doesn’t work, especially when I need clients and money
  • Operating under this definition creates resentment, manipulation and strategies to get something back
  • True Definition of Service = Giving/helping/loving fearlessly without attachment to an outcome
  • Money is part of service.
  • Can’t serve unless people are willing to pay for your product or service
  • Nobody values anything if it’s free
  • Must include yourself in the equation of service
  • Service and love mean letting go of your ego = that’s true power
  • Love for a living because love does pay the mortgage
  • Love expresses itself in many ways; there is not just one version of love

013: Monica Day Interview

Monica Day Interview

The All Arminda Virtual Show

Monica Day

I first met Monica in downtown London on a (purportedly rare) sunny summer afternoon. She was so willing to speak with me, to answer my (what felt like a bazillion) questions, to have a meaningful conversation with me and about me, without her own agenda clouding the space between us.

We’ve stayed connected ever since and I’m honored to have her on the show. I am certain you, too, will connect with her frank and honest approach to every. single. topic. she discusses.

Today’s conversation is an invitation to you to consider the interconnectedness of creativity, expression and sensuality because Monica is the champion for their integration in every aspect of our lives.

Referenced in this Episode:

Whenever one person resolves one issue, all of humanity moves forward.

Monica’s Bio:

Monica Day is a writer, artist, creator, producer, performer, coach, entrepreneur and instigator, with a deep commitment to an ever-unfolding personal journey. She brings a unique combination of training in creativity, sensuality, diversity, and business to her work.

She is the founder of The Sensual Life, the producer and creator of The Power of One program, is an Integrative Coach to individuals, executives, and groups, and runs Ducky Life Tea with her two daughters. She has developed a unique approach to coaching that focuses on integrating the scattered self into the most powerful, purest, and fully-expressed self. She coaches a diverse range of individuals from business leaders to social change activists and everything in between.

Her innovative individual and group programs cover topics from sensuality to creativity to business to larger social issues of race and oppression (often in the same session). By forging powerful links between the private self to the public self, clients eventually realize an unprecedented feeling of wholeness that is life-changing. Her coaching is based on the premise that the more connected we are to every part of ourselves, the more connected we can be with one another, and the bigger impact we can have during our time here on the planet.

Traditions

The All Arminda Virtual Show, episode 12

Spoiler Alert: Arminda reveals what she does not eat and how that informs what she does eat for traditional holiday feasts.

Note: The spoiler alert mentioned above has little to do with the intention of this episode, which is really asking yourself the following questions:

Are you committed to the tradition of your traditions?

How can you reinvent the way (and why) you do what you do every day?

Are you stuck in a traditional way of living your life that might be fun to shake up to see what happens?

Remove the (made up) meaning from just one of your traditions and tell me what you see!

Happy Birthday, Steve Chandler

November 27, 2015 By Arminda

Chandler3To say that Steve Chandler being part of my life as my coach and mentor has changed my life is not said lightly.

Andy Fry of the Be Happiness Project eloquently shares the learning available to each of us on this exciting journey of being human:

The way I think of this transfer of wisdom and love working is like an abundant waterfall as it passes down from person to person. It doesn’t stop there either because it’s recycled from great lakes and rivers of learning and experience back to the source in a beautiful unbroken cycle, like the rain and water that sustains us!

That abundant waterfall of wisdom and love and service is Steve Chandler personified. And I relish every single opportunity that is mine to drench myself in his coaching and in his example and in his books.

For Steve’s birthday I wanted to tell him “Happy Birthday,” of course, but I also wanted to express in a small way that his impact on my life has had — and continues to have — a ripple effect that we won’t likely ever be able to measure.

In creating this birthday video for him, I was able to continue impacting lives as I discussed with each of the participants more about Steve and his positive influence on my life.

I don’t share all of this to suggest that others haven’t also influenced and impacted me. I do want to acknowledge that along the journey there are standout individuals whose paths cross ours at just the right time, for just the right reasons, and with such a force that the direction of our sails is altered from that moment forward.

Steve is such a force in my life.

With gratitude,
